Getting to Know International Organizations

I chose to review https://www.care.org

CARE(2019) is a “global leader within the worldwide movement dedicated to ending poverty.” As part of there mission is to save lives and to achieve social justice with a focus towards women and girls. Social justice is important to this organization because they believe that social injustice prevents people from having access to the necessary knowledge and resources that are available for them to improve their situations.

Through my research of this website I was able to gain insight about how in many of these country women and girls do not have many rights and are viewed as less than equal in their household. The CARE organization believes that through the empowerment of women and girls that it can reduce poverty. By simply educating young girl, equal household chores, and eliminating early childhood marriages will provide opportunities for these women and girls to be productive contributing factor within their household and communities.

Sharing Web Resources

The name of the organizations that I chose was the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). This organization is a professional membership association that advocates for children up to the age of eight years old for them to receive high-quality childcare (National Association for the Education of Young Children. n.d.). They conduct advocacy work by working with local, state, and federal politicians on policies and legislation for education.

While I was exploring their website, I found an article titled “Breaking Down Barriers in Early Childhood Education, One Country at a Time.” This article covered the 6^th Annual International Education Exhibition and Forum that took place August 2018 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The reason this article stood out to me is that educator from all over the world gather for a week to discuss current issues, trends, and policies that the NAEYC is striving to improve all across the globe. During this conference, educators had the opportunity to tour and learn about the city and the country, attend the midday prayer at a local mosque, and have dinner at a local restaurant. I was glad to read this because it touched on this week’s lesson of cultural diversity and awareness. It can be an uncomfortable issue, but it is something as an educator we will at some time have to deal with in the classroom, and we should strive to have an open mind and seek to understand other cultures.

Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources

After reviewing the different websites, I chose the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Since early childhood education is going to be a new experience and career field for me, I want to stay current on all issues, legislation, and policies within the field. Also, this website and association can connect with some of the leading professionals within the early childhood field. I'm looking forward to exploring this association and sharing with everyone the information I discover.
