that are important to me as an early
childhood professional.
I-1.8 To support the right of each child to play and learn
in an inclusive environment that meets the needs of children with and without disabilities.
Providing an inclusive environment for all children to learn
and play is important to me because all
children should be treated fairly regardless of their needs. Every child is different
and has different learning abilities. It
is essential for early childhood educators to have and demonstrate an
understanding of child development for both regularly developing children and
children with disabilities.
I-1.1 To be familiar with the knowledge base of early
childhood care and education and to stay informed through continuing education
and training.
Continuing to build on my knowledge base of early childhood
education is important because as an educator in the field it is pivotal that I
stay current with changes within the field. Being an
educator means that you have a committed to lifelong learning.
I-1.3 To use assessment information to understand and
support children’s development and learning, to support instruction, and to
identify children who may need additional services.
Assessment is essential for child development and is the responsibility
of educators. The process is observing, annotating, and sharing of the information
with the parents. Assessment is important to me because it allows me as the
educator to develop a method of teaching for my students and provide resources
to the parents to enhance the child’s learning abilities. Overall, contributing
to the educational success of the child
in the school environment.

ReplyDeleteIt is very important for teachers to be knowledgeable of child development for children with and without disabilities. More and more programs are developing inclusive programs which benefits all children (with, without, or at risk of disabilities). A teacher needs to know how to support the students because what strategies work for one may just benefit another. - Donna

ReplyDeleteI agree that assessments are important. They truly serve as an educator's road map to intentional planning, modifying, and scaffolding instructions to enhance learning for children on an individual basis. Information gathered from the assessment tools can be used by educators, parents, and policy makers to evaluate children’s development and also the benefits of early childhood education.
